Suhong [Edit]
Soohorang is the mascot of the 2018 Winter Olympics, and the motif of the backhoe symbolizes Korea. "Suh" means protecting the athletes, participants and spectators participating in the Olympic Games. "Lang" means "Tiger" and "Jungsun Arirang" representing Gangwon Province. [1] [5]

The organizing committee said that the choice of the "Baekho" was to emphasize the sacredness that often appears as a god who cares for humanity, praying for the peace and well-being of the village in the folk religion of Korea, while maintaining the continuity of Hodori who was a mascot at the 1988 Summer Olympics . [5] It was also noted that the Baekho, based on the emotion of Koreans who liked white from ancient times, was in harmony with the Winter Olympics in the white snowy country. [6]

Suhang is full of "challenging spirit and enthusiasm," and is "a personality that protects the people who participate in the Olympics." [1

Bandai [edit]
Bandabi is the 2018 Winter Paralympic mascot. [1] [5] It is a symbol of will and courage. 'Banda' of 'Ban Dabi' means half-moon of a half-moon beast, and '-bi' has the meaning of commemorating the competition. [1]

Van Derby is a warm-hearted friend who "has strong will and courage, is at the forefront of equality and harmony," and supports the enthusiasm of the players in the Paralympics so that they can overcome their limitations. [1]
